EN CLOSURE.
MAY
Government Civil Hospital.
Hong-Kong, 29th. April,1898.
Sir,
It is with the deepest regret that I write
to inform you of the death of Sister Frances which occurred
at 2.20 a.m. this morning.
Her illness was very short, it was only on
the 26th. instant at midday that she complained of slight
fever, that evening she was slightly better.
The following day suspicious symptoms oc-
curred and she was transferred to an isolation ward in the
Govt. Civil Hospital.
Early yesterday morning there was no doubt
that she was suffering from the most fatal type of the di- sease, viz.,Plague pneumonia which she had evidently con- tracted from her "Ward boy"; who, on the 20th. when attacked by the same disease, in his delirium, spat on her clothes &
face.
Drs Lowson, Bell and myself were in attendance
all during the day.
Shortly after midnight she rapidly became
worse and died in the presence of the matron, three sisters
